Your first useful run

The tutorial starts on a face-down card board. Every card you turn costs food. When food reaches zero, later turns remove health and also build stress; filling the stress bar applies a random negative stat.

  1. Reveal one card at a time and watch the food bar before opening another unknown card.
  2. Add a useful card to your hand before using it. Food cards refill food, while armor absorbs incoming damage.
  3. Treat every action as a combat turn when an enemy is visible: after you act, visible enemies attack.
  4. Use weapons deliberately because each one has a limited number of durability points before it breaks.
  5. Find both a door and its key to leave the floor; keep enough food, health, and usable damage for the next reveal.

What the full game adds

The Steam listing describes six unlockable heroes, each with distinct passive abilities and spells. It also promises card upgrades, item combinations from chests and shops, traps, more than ten bosses, and runs that change from playthrough to playthrough.

  • Card upgrades can lower the difficulty of a run.
  • The final objective is to use what you find to defeat enemies and kill the final boss.
  • Full gamepad support includes Steam Deck according to the Steam listing.

Common questions

Common questions

Is this the old iPhone game?

No. This guide covers the 4Cats game listed on Steam for 2026. The older Fireflame match-three RPG is a separate game with the same name.

Is there a playable demo?

Yes. Steam has a free demo listing, and the 4Cats itch page offers a browser build plus labeled desktop and Android downloads.

What ends a run?

Health reaching zero ends the run. Running out of food makes later turns cost health and increases stress.
